Your family's new favorite dish is made of tender, expertly seasoned shrimp that is sautéed over a bed of vibrant bell peppers and onions. You'll want to include this in your regular meal schedule because it's ready in only 30 minutes.

Ingredients :


For the shrimp fajitas:


  • Peeled and deveined shrimp weighing half a pound.
  • smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon.
  • onion powder, 1 teaspoon.
  • chili powder, 1 tablespoon.
  • Coarse kosher salt, 1 teaspoon, plus more to taste.
  • Ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon.
  • 4 minced garlic cloves.
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided.
  • 3 bell peppers, sliced.
  • 1 medium onion, sliced.
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro.
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice, about 1 lime.


For serving:


  • Flour tortillas.
  • Chopped cilantro.
  • Avocado slices.
  • Sour cream or Mexican crema.
  • Fresh lime wedges.


Preparation:


  1. The shrimp, garlic, chilli powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, cumin, black pepper, and 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil should all be combined in a big bowl. Combine thoroughly, then set aside.
  2. The remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons are heated over medium-high heat in a big skillet. Once the peppers have softened and the onions have begun to caramelize, add the onions and peppers and simmer, stirring periodically, for 13 to 15 minutes.
  3. The cooked peppers and onions should be transferred to a bowl, covered with a plate, and let to cool.
  4. When the shrimp are pink and no longer translucent, add the spiced shrimp and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring periodically.
  5. Re-add the peppers and onions that have been cooked to the skillet, then sprinkle over the lime juice and cilantro. Combine everything, taste it, and adjust the salt level as needed.
  6. With sour cream, avocado slices, and any additional toppings you choose, remove from the heat and serve in warm flour tortillas.
  7. Enjoy!


Serving suggestions:


Warm tortillas and a variety of toppings go fantastically with shrimp fajitas. To add tones of flavor, stuff each tortilla with chopped cilantro, sour cream, avocado crème, Mexican crema, and fresh lime wedges.


Include all the appropriate side dishes and a drink to go with it to turn it into a dinner. My avocado salad should be served as a side dish along with a cool skinny margarita.


Storing and Reheating:


Keep leftovers in the fridge for three to four days in an airtight container. They can also be carefully wrapped in foil or plastic wrap. If cooked shrimp is left out at room temperature for more than two hours, bacteria may start to grow.


Add the leftovers to a skillet set over medium heat to reheat. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the food is well heated.


Check to see if the leftovers are safe to eat. Before eating again, smell the remaining shrimp. Throw it aside if it feels slimy and has a bad scent.


Tips and Substitutions :

  • Would you like more spice? Add some serrano or jalapeno peppers to the dish.
  • Make a tortilla out of it. I strongly advise using freshly made flour tortillas for your fajitas. Use my corn tortilla recipe if you can't have gluten.
  • Start by letting your frozen shrimp defrost in the fridge for an entire night. The risk of hazardous microorganisms is reduced by cooking shrimp in this manner. Never combine seafood with room temperature.
  • When shrimp changes from grey and translucent to pink and white, it is generally considered to be cooked. The shrimp will be overcooked if there is an excessive amount of white, so be sure to carefully follow the instructions.
  • Before cooking, always season or marinade shrimp. When heat is applied, the tastes will penetrate the fish. Use caution when using citrus-based marinades since if the meat sits in the acid for longer than two hours, the flesh may really be cooked.


Is a sheet pan suitable for making Shrimp Fajitas?


Yes! Simply add the fajita seasoning to the peppers, onions, and shrimp in a big dish, and then transfer the mixture to a sizable sheet pan. For about 10 minutes, cook at 400°F.
